A remarkable 101-run ninth-wicket stand between Mahendra Singh Dhoni and RP Singh rescued India, enabling them to escape the depths of being 82 for eight and set the West Indies 189 to win the second One-Day International at Sabina Park in Jamaica. Dhoni, who made 95, and Singh, who hit a career best of 23, were brought together in the 22nd over after a string of Indian batsmen perished to catches behind the wicket but the pair coolly worked the singles and punished the bad balls to frustrate the West Indian attempts to bowl them out cheaply. Dinesh Karthik (4), Gautam Gambhir (0), Yuvraj Singh (35), Ravi Jadeja (7) and Harbhajan Singh (7) all gave catches to wicket-keeper Denesh Ramdin, who spilled an edge from Rohit Sharma only for it to be snaffled by Runako Morton at slip as India's top order failed to show the required discipline in the face of some good swing bowling from Jerome Taylor (3-35) and Ravi Rampaul (4-37).

Yuvraj was dropped by Morton early on and Dhoni played the ball into Ramdin's gloves only to be given a reprieve and he was to make full use of both this chance, and two drops when on 32 and 85. He hit five fours and two big sixes, the other two maximums coming from Yuvraj and RP Singh, whose partnership with Dhoni is India's highest in One-Day Internationals against the West Indies. Dwayne Bravo finally ended the stand when RP Singh pulled him to Sulieman Benn at midwicket and Dhoni was bowled by Taylor trying to guide the ball into the off side in the penultimate over. India lead the series 1-0 after they won a high-scoring match by 20 runs at the same venue two days ago.

In the mean time New skipper Bangladeshi Mashrafe bin Mortaza hopes to produce improve performance as Bangladesh cricket team leave for Barbados, West Indies on a five weeks tour today. Ace pace bowler Mashrafe replaced Mohammad Ashraful as captain of the national cricket team. His deputy on the tour will be World's number one-day all rounder Shakib Al Hasan. BCB arranged a press conference at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium's auditorium today. Coach Jamie Siddons, assistant coach Khaled Mahmud Sujon, Captain Mashrafe and vice captain Shakib Al Hasan spoke on the occasion. Bangladesh will play two test matches three one-day internationals and one Twenty20 match. Besides the official games there will be two practice matches. Then the Tiger will embark for Zimbabwe to play five One-day international.

India managed to hold their nerves to pull off a thrilling 20 run win against the West Indies in the first ODI in Kingston. West Indies openers Gayle and Morton have gone off to a great start against India in pursuit of a daunting target. Both were sent back to the hut by Nehra and Yusuf Pathan respectively. Ramnaresh Sarwan failed to make his ground in a bid to complete a risky and almost non-existent double. Ishant Sharma gave India more to cheer about when he sent back the dangerous Dwayne Bravo. India are in control of the first ODI with Yusuf Pathan getting rid of Shivnarine Chanderpaul, who threatened to take the West Indies to victory. Yusuf then struck for a second time, trapping Jerome Taylor plumn in front of the wickets and the writing was all but on the wall.

India began to make amends for their limp World Twenty20 showing by piling on 339 for six against the West Indies in the first one-day international thanks to a pulsating century from Yuvraj Singh. Yuvraj, perhaps still in 20-over mode after his side's Super Eights exit in England earlier this month, smashed 131 off 102 balls before perishing to Dwayne Bravo courtesy of a fine catch by wicketkeeper Denesh Ramdin. Bravo then removed Ravindra Jadeja next ball to slow India's progress, but a total of 14 sixes at Sabina Park in Kingston helped the tourists to a commanding total. It was Dinesh Karthik who did the early damage, overcoming the losses of Gautam Gambhir and Rohit Sharma to strike 67 off 76 balls.

The openers dished out some harsh treatment in Lionel Baker's first over before a Jerome Taylor bouncer accounted for Gambhir (13). A Baker short ball did for Sharma (4) soon after, Bravo taking the catch on both occasions. That brought Yuvraj and Karthik together, with the pair happy to rebuild slowly at first. Karthik began to up the rate with boundaries off David Bernard and Bravo, before a Dilshan-esque scoop for six off the Jamaican brought up his 50. India rode a Yuvraj Singh hundred to amass a challenging total against the West Indies in the first ODI in Kingston. Dwayne Bravo snapped up two wickets off two balls to put the brakes on India, who were sailing away towards a huge total against the West Indiesbut MS Dhoni and Yusuf Pathan carried on at a good rate and helped the visitors get past the 300 run mark. In fact, Dhoni looked in great touch after a long while and with Yusuf garnered some quick runs.

Pakistan Innings

Pakistan were crowned ICC World Twenty20 champions after clinching an eight-wicket win over Sri Lanka in the final at Lord's. Shahid Afridi hit an unbeaten 54 to steer his side home along with Shoaib Malik, who made 24 not out in a match-winning stand of 76. Having been behind the rate for long periods of their reply Pakistan coasted home in the end, crossed the finishing line with eight balls to spare. Their victory, which had looked so unlikely after they made a slow start to the tournament, losing three of their first four games on English soil, helps erase the memory of their final defeat to rival India back in 2007. Sri Lanka had earlier been restricted to 138-6 from their 20 overs, Kumar Sangakkara hitting 64 not out to hold the innings together. The left-hander had little hesitation in choosing to bat first after winning the toss but soon found himself at the crease with his side reeling on 2-2 after just nine deliveries.

Having come into the contest as the tournament's leading run-scorer, Tillekeratne Dilshan failed to add to his tally of 317 when he fell for a fifth-ball duck in the opening over. Teenager Mohammad Aamir removed the in-form opener when he had him caught at short fine leg trying to play his famed paddle shot, though it was the experienced Abdul Razzaq who did most of the early damage. The all-rounder removed Jehan Mubarak without troubling the scorers with his third ball on his way to figures of 3-20 from his three overs. Sanath Jayasuriya became his second victim when he played on having made 17 off 10 balls, while former captain Mahela Jayawardene (one) guided a short ball straight into the hands of Misbah-ul-Haq stationed at slip. With his side struggling at 32-4, Sangakkara finally found a reliable ally in Chamara Silva, who contributed a patient 14 before becoming Umar Gul's 14th victim in the event.

Isuru Udana departed quickly but Angelo Mathews provided some all-important late impetus with 35 from just 24 balls during an unbeaten seventh-wicket stand of 68, of which 17 came off the last over of the innings. The late burst gave the Sri Lankans' much-vaunted bowling attack something to defend as they bid to maintain their perfect record in the event, a run of wins that included a victory over the same opponents in the Super Eights. Although it took them until the eighth over to make a breakthrough, they did make sure Pakistan never managed to get on top of the run rate. However, Afridi's second successive 50 made sure Pakistan did not slip up in the final again to claim their first ICC silverware since Imran Khan's side triumphed in the World Cup Down Under back in 1992. When Udana followed up with a hip-high no ball that was flicked away fine for four, the Sri Lankans knew their hopes were gone. In the end a leg bye of Afridi's boot clinched Pakistan victory, allowing the celebrations to get underway inside the ground and back in their homeland.

West Indies Innings

Sri Lanka beat West Indies in the second semi final and they will meet Pakistan in the final on Sunday. The game was brilliant and entertaining as for Sri Lankans. But for West Indians it's a disaster. Chris Gayle manage to do what is expected but no one to help him. Sri Lanka will take on a resurgent West Indies side in the second semi-final of the Twenty20 World Cup today at the Oval. Kumara Sangakkara's side have been unbeaten in the tournament so far. Their secret of success lay in having two unorthodox spinners in Muttiah Muralitharan and Ajantha Mendis, plus the brilliant and unorthodox paceman Lasith Malinga. Sri Lankan batsmen are also in ominous form especially when confronted with average West Indian bowling line-up. The Sri Lankans are also very energetic in the field and they save 20-30 runs in the field.

No West Indian bowler has been able to take wickets consistently in the tournament so far. West Indies main strength lie in their batting led by Chris Gayle. If he clicks and stays in for seven or eight overs, he can take the game away from Sri Lankans in no time. The West Indies also have the benefit of a long batting order with class players like Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Ramnaresh Sarwan coming in at six and seven. They also have a key player in Dwayne Bravo who is equally useful with bat and ball and can be a threat for Sri Lanka. The pitch at the Oval is expected to be batting friendly and with a fast outfield a high scoring game is in prospect. Sri Lankans will indeed be the favourites given their well rounded unit and the good form. The Oval wicket has a tendency of slowing down as the game progresses and Sangakkara will be praying that the coin falls in his favour so that his team can bat first. As for the Windies, they must not be taken lightly.

Sri Lankan spin duo of Muttiah Muralitharan and Ajantha Mendis have given little to the opposition, but they have been playing contrasting roles in this tournament. The master off-spinner has donned a restrictive role and it has only helped his young ward, who displayed enough pluck to exploit the pressure his mentor created from the other end. Mendis also looked a fresher bowler with sharpness. Add Lasith Malinga to the combination, the Lankan attack has an edge over all-comers.However if West Indian batsmen manage to deal well with Sri Lankan bowlers they are in with a chance. So the winner of today's game will compete for the final on Sunday and it will be very very entertaining game.

Shahid Afridi's fine all-round performance clinched Pakistan's place in their second successive ICC World Twenty20 final at the expense of South Africa at Trent Bridge. Pakistan skipper Younus Khan had elected to bat and it was Afridi who gave their innings impetus with a 32-ball half century containing eight boundaries. He shared in a third wicket stand of 67 in 10 overs with a more circumspect Shoaib Malik (34) but the last five overs only realised 29 runs in a total of 149 for four. It was the first defeat of the tournament for Graeme Smith's side, whose fielding display was below previous standards, as they closed on 142 for five. Pakistan will play the winners of the second semi-final between Sri Lanka and West Indies in Sunday's final at Lord's. They will be looking to go one better than in 2007 when they lost the final to India in South Africa.

Pakistan won the toss and Younis Khan chose to bat. Earlier The South African is undefeated in the tournament and have won seven consecutive games in England including the warm-up games. Pakistan, however, have stumbled their way into the top four after losing a warm-up game to India and then losing their first game of the tournament to hosts England. After Pakistan skipper Younus Khan elected to bat, it was Afridi - promoted to number three - that gave their innings impetus with a 32-ball half century, containing eight boundaries. He shared in a third wicket stand of 67 with Shoaib Malik (34) as the 2007 runners-up posted 149 for four. Afridi then shone with the ball, dismissing Herschelle Gibbs and AB De Villiers and conceding just 16 runs in his four overs, as the Proteas were beaten by seven runs at Trent Bridge.

Jacques Kallis made a half-century off 46 deliveries with seven fours for South Africa but lacked support, meaning the Proteas gradually fell behind the required run-rate, and his dismissal for 64 in the 18th over ended their already fading hopes. Even an innings of 44 not out from JP Duminy proved too little too late as Graeme Smith's side slumped to their first defeat of the tournament, closing on 142 for five. Pakistan will now play the winners of the second semi-final between Sri Lanka and West Indies in Sunday's final at Lord's, where they will be looking to go one better than in 2007 when they lost the final to India in South Africa.

Ireland are out of the ICC World Twenty20 after losing by nine runs to Sri Lanka on Sunday. Mahela Jayawardene's rapid half-century helped Sri Lanka to a total of 144-9 after they had opted to bat first on a slow pitch at Lord's. And Ireland looked capable of claiming their second scalp of the tournament, having beaten Bangladesh in the initial group phase, when opening pair William Porterfield and Niall O'Brien put on 59 in nine overs at the start of the run chase. But Sri Lanka's star bowling trio of Muttiah Muralitharan, Ajantha Mendis and Lasith Malinga bailed out their team with a flurry of wickets, the required rate spiralled and Ireland finished up short on 135-7. Defeat ends Ireland's hopes of reaching the semi-finals, while Sri Lanka are now top of Group F on four points and almost certain to progress to last four.Muralitharan (1-13) started the collapse by having Porterfield caught behind for 31 with the first ball of the 10th over.

Andrew White (21) helped Niall O'Brien add 28 for the second wicket but fell to Nuwan Kulasekara, top edging an attempted scoop. O'Brien was joined by his younger brother Kevin with the score at 87-2 but both departed in the space of four Mendis (2-22) deliveries. Kevin top-edged a slog to Tillakaratne Dilshan at midwicket for a duck and Niall (31) was stumped after charging down the pitch and missing. And Malinga speared in the yorkers superbly in the death overs, bowling Trent Johnston (9) and Andre Botha (0) with successive deliveries in the 18th over to reduce Ireland to 106-6. Ireland required 36 off the final 12 balls and, after taking Kulasekera (1-47) for 18 off the penultimate over, still retained glimmer of hope.

But Malinga conceded just eight, including the run out of Alex Cusack attempting to take one to the wicketkeeper, to complete figures of 2-19 as Ireland closed just shy. Jayawardene had earlier hit 78 off off 53 balls as Sri Lanka recovered from a poor start to their innings. Ireland restricted Sri Lanka's powerful line-up to 28-2 at the end of the six powerplay overs - easily their worst start of the tournament. But Jayawardene teamed up with 39-year-old opener Sanath Jayasuriya in a 67-run stand off 49 balls, including a spell of 37 off just three overs, to put them on course for a much bigger total. Instead of pushing on to a major score, however, they stumbled again with Jayasuriya falling lbw to Kevin McCallan's off-spin for 27. Ireland face Pakistan in their final Group F fixture at the Oval on Monday, while Sri Lanka take on New Zealand at Trent Bridge the following day.

England Innings

West Indies Innings

England are out of the World Twenty20 after losing by five wickets to West Indies on the Duckworth Lewis method in their final Super Eights match at The Oval. Two showers in south London meant the West Indians faced a revised target of 80 in nine overs after England posted 161 for six - and they got home by five wickets with four balls to spare. England lost in the quarter finals of the World 20/20 cricket through the rain, which allowed the West Indies nine overs to reach their target under the adjusted Duckworth-Lewis run rules, designed to equalise things in limited overs matches if the weather, or whatever, intervenes. But this was clearly silly as, once the storms had passed over, there was no reason why the game couldn't have continued for the full 20 overs each side.

Still, good luck to the Windies who have played like a real Windies team in this tournament. But will the England selectors take note? Wicket keeper James Foster, who last played for England about seven years ago aged just 22, almost kept them in the match with his brilliant stumpings. And he batted pretty well too. He must be selected for the Ashes team against the Australians. The Windies made hard work of the chase though as first Andre Fletcher fell for his third straight duck when he skied a cross shot off James Anderson to wicketkeeper James Foster. The ever-dangerous Gayle was next to go when bowled by Ryan Sidebottom and Stuart Broad then got Lendl Simmons caught at third man for a golden duck as the Windies were reduced to 16-3.

But the Caribbean side bats deep and Kieron Pollard and Dwayne Bravo rallied before recalled leg spinner Adil Rashid got the former bowled for nine. Bravo swiftly followed as James Foster and Graeme Swann combined for a stumping - a repeat of the superb work done by the duo in getting Yuvraj Singh out in Sunday's win over India. But alas, it proved to no avail as Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Ramnaresh Sarwan combined to guide the Windies home with an unbeaten 37 run stand. Bopara had earlier top scored for England with 55, but no other batsman made more than Kevin Pietersen's 31. But a stand worth 56 was ended when Pietersen was caught by Fletcher at deep square leg off medium-pacer Simmons for 31. And Bopara, having made a fine fifty, could not press on and was lbw to occasional off-spinner Gayle, which ultimately meant the revised target always looked gettable.

Pakistan Innings

Face bowler Umar Gul became the first bowler to claim five wickets in Twenty20 International cricket when helped Pakistan skittle New Zealand out for a meager total of 99 in 18.3 overs in their World Twenty20 Super Eights Group F match at the Oval here on Saturday. Umar Gul captured five wickets for eight runs from three overs, eclipsing previous best of 4-07 by Mark Gillespie of New Zealand against Kenya at Durban in 2007. After New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori won the toss and elected to bat on a good batting wicket, Pakistani bowlers never let them play freely and bundled them out for 99. Only Scott Styris (22), Aaron Redmond (15) and Brendon McCullum (12) could enter into double figures.

Abdul Razzaq, playing for the first time in the tournament after being called up as a replacement for Yasir Arafat, made the initial breakthrough and bagged two wickets in his first two overs. Mohammad Aamer and Shahid Afridi took one wicket each. Left-arm spinner Vettori was playing his first match of the tournament following a shoulder injury but batsman Ross Taylor again missed out with a hamstring strain. Pakistan omitted opener Salman Butt to play 19-year-old rookie Shahzaib Hasan and brought in all-rounder Abdur Razzaq in place of Sohail Tanvir. Pakistan, who lost their first Super Eights match to Sri Lanka on Friday, need a win to keep their semi-final hopes alive. New Zealand thrashed Ireland by 83 runs at Trent Bridge on Thursday and will virtually book a place in the last four if they beat Pakistan.

Gul captured five for six from three overs in the World Cup second round match against New Zealand at The Oval. New Zealand's 99 all out from 18.3 overs was the lowest total from a test-playing nation in the tournament. In the earlier match, the performance of South Africa's Wayne Parnell against West Indies, when the 19-year-old took four wickets for 13 runs, indicated that fast bowlers could finally make an impact on a tournament so far dominated by spin bowlers and batsmen. Tomorrow Ireland will face Sri Lanka and England will face India. Two very entertaining game.

Defending champions India have been packed out of the ICC World Twenty20 after England pulled off a thrilling three run win in their Super Eights clash at Lord's. Graeme Swann snapped up two wickets in one over, sending back Ravinder Jadeja and Yuvraj Singh to further dent India's hopes of qualifying for the semi-finals. Gautam Gambhir perished to Dimitri Mascerenhas and India are in deep trouble against England at Lord's. In walks Yuvraj Singh. Meanwhile, Ravinder Jadeja, who struggled to get going perished to Graeme Swann, trying to accelerate the run rate. England are looking strong. Ryan Sidebottom has struck for the second time, this time, to see the end of Suresh Raina, who was looking all at sea against some serious short pitched stuff.

India lost Rohit Sharma early, when he chopped a Sidebottom delivery onto his stumps. Even though they have one more game win or loose won't make any effect on them. Today England have set India 154 to win this evening's World Twenty20 match at Lord's between two sides looking for their first victory in Group E. India will be eliminated if they lose this match, and although England will still be in the tournament should they be beaten, their plight will be equally grim as they will need a comprehensive victory over West Indies tomorrow and for South Africa to beat India in their remaining game. The home side once more made a poor start, as Luke Wright skied a catch to Yusuf Pathan off the bowling of RP Singh having made just a single. Ravi Bopara and Kevin Pietersen shared a stand of 71 in ten overs before both fell in quick succession to the slow left-arm spin of Ravindra Jadeja.

The Essex batsman was bowled for a run-a-ball 37 while Pietersen, who hit five fours and a six in his 46 from 27 balls, appeared slightly aggrieved to be adjudged lbw to a full toss despite it being the correct decision. Dimitri Mascarenhas, the Hampshire all-rounder, was promoted up the order to provide some impetus, but he struggled to find the boundary early in his innings and with Owais Shah also failing to produce the big shots the England innings stagnated somewhat. Shah finally holed out for 12, hitting Harbhajan Singh to Jadeja at deep midwicket. Paul Collingwood paid the price for a foolish choice of shot, going leg before to a reverse sweep to Zaheer Zhan with only ten deliveries left in the innings. England made 82 from their last ten overs without finding the glut of boundaries they had been hoping for and Harbhajan stemmed their progress yet further by removing James Foster and Graeme Swann in successive balls.

Pakistan have won the match against Ireland by 39 runs. Ireland seem to have lost the battle as it need a simply improbable task to win. The Ireland have lost 5 wickets at 102 runs and desire 52 runs off 19 balls. Ireland were 44/2 in 7th over chasing a target of 160 runs. Pakistan have set a target of 160 runs for Ireland. Pakistan were 119/3 in 16 overs. Pakistan have lost Shahzaib Hasan and Shahid Afridi. Both got dismissed at 23 runs respectively. going ahead of 59 runs for the loss of one wicket against Ireland. Pakistan skipper Younis Khan won the toss and elected to bat first. A confident Pakistan are looking positively to seal the semis berth here today. Pakistan will take on minnows Ireland in the super eight match here today. After crushing New Zealand by six wickets in a do or die match, Pakistan have definite chance here to ensure the semifinals berth.

A win against Ireland would pave the way for Semifinals. The performance of Younus Khan & Co. against Black Caps have made them strong contender for ICC World Twenty20 title. On the other hand, Ireland have already out of the tournament but they will want to end the campaign on winning note. However, Ireland have quite impressive with their performance. reland departed the World Twenty20 after a 39-run defeat by Pakistan at the Oval. Despite another respectable showing in the field against top-class opposition, the minnows' limitations with the bat were ruthlessly exposed in the Super Eights contest. William Porterfield's team restricted Pakistan to 5-159 and was competitive until the latter half of its own innings when the gulf in class was emphasised. Paul Stirling, 18, and the more established Kevin O'Brien attempted some adventure against the new ball but the entire team managed only six boundaries between them. It lost only two wickets in the opening 13 overs but, after captain Porterfield succumbed for 40, it collapsed in a heap.

Once again it was Umar Gul who seized the initiative for Pakistan, following his extraordinary figures of 5-6 against New Zealand on the same ground this past weekend. Fast bowler Gul, whose exploits on Saturday sparked an approach from New Zealand to the match officials to check the legality of the methods by which he obtained reverse swing, was rewarded once again for his ability to send down searing yorkers at will. New Zealand accepted the match officials' view they had seen nothing to arouse suspicion. There was no repeat of the carnage he inflicted on the Kiwis but the runs simply dried up as the Irish slipped from 2-87 to 9-120. Gul hit the timber three times - one effort was redundant as it was from a free hit - as Ireland's hitters Trent Johnston and Andrew White were meekly tamed. With Ireland's batsmen therefore forced to have a dash at the other end, off-spinner Saeed Ajmal profited with 4-19.

India have made no changes while West Indies preferred Simmons over Xavier Marshall. atting maestro Sachin Tendulkar, accompanied by his family, watched India fighting the West Indies in their Super Eight stage match of the Twenty20 World Cup at Lord's here today. Tendulkar, who keeps himself out of national Twenty20 reckoning lest it upsets India's team combination, was seen along with wife Anjali and son Arjun in the stands. Cricketer-turned-commentator Ravi Shastri was also seen beside Tendulkar, who was wearing T-shirt and a leather jacket. The Mumbaikar is here to cheer for the Indian team and he released 'Tendulkar Opus', an 800-page coffee table book, here yesterday.

Presentation

Australia will have plenty of time to work on their preparations for the Ashes after they were dumped out of the World Twenty20 championships on Monday by a rampant Sri Lanka. It was a grim day for Ricky Ponting, their captain, and particularly for strike bowler Brett Lee, whose figures took a pounding for the second consecutive game. There may be an element of fortune about 20-over cricket, but this result extended Australia's horror run in the format to five successive defeats, suggesting that they have yet to come to terms with cricket's newest and most vibrant incarnation. There was little sense in Nottingham that Australia were playing to a plan in the PowerPlay overs, which Sri Lanka exploited with a fusillade of early boundaries. Ponting's desperate attempts at fire-fighting - which included some bizarre field placings - only seemed to make matters worse.

In an unexpected role reversal, Australia's much-maligned spinners brought them back into the game in the middle overs. Nathan Hauritz was probably the pick of their bowlers, finishing with figures of one for 27. But then Lee returned, and allowed Jehan Mubarak to hoist him for two vital sixes over midwicket. At the other end, the ever-collected Kumar Sangakarra finished on 55 not out. The accident-prone beginning to Australia's tour is beginning to justify comparisons with their disastrous summer of 2005, which they opened with successive defeats against England (in a Twenty20 international), Somerset, Bangladesh and England again.

This time, Australia looked powerful and fluent in the warm-up matches, despatching Bangladesh and New Zealand with ease. But as soon as they came up against the West Indies in the first full international of the tour, they tanked horribly, allowing an inspired Chris Gayle to pepper the Oval's brickwork with a sequence of gigantic sixes. Ricky Ponting's men will now go to Leicester, where they will have six days of training while the World Twenty20 tournament carries on around them. After that, they move on to Canterbury for more middle practices and net sessions.

Bangladesh Innings

Ireland Innings

Bangladesh's hopes of qualifying for the Super Eights of the ICC World Twenty20 were dashed when they suffered a six-wicket defeat to Ireland in their Group A do-or-die match at Trent Bridge, Nottingham on Monday. Ireland, comprising of county cricketers, reached 138-4 with 10 balls to spare after Bangladesh could manage 137-8. Ireland reached the Super Eights along with India, who will face the Irish in a group-deciding encounter on June 10. After going down to defending champions India by 25 runs in the first match, Bangladesh needed to win against Ireland, who also stunned Bangladesh in the 2007 World Cup in the West Indies.

Definitely the score Bangladesh put on the board was not enough to defend and captain Mohammad Ashraful's bowling changes were also questionable as he kept spinner Abdur Razzak out of the attack until 11th over and by that time the Irish had recovered from a sluggish start to reach 70-2. Razzak was introduced in the 12th over and proved his worth removing opener William Porterfield for 23 with his second delivery, but the captain did not bother to use Razzak's fourth over. Ashraful even did not consider to use Naeem Islam, who conceded just nine runs in the two overs he bowled.

Basically it was the O'Brien brothers who turned the match in Ireland's favour as one-down Niall O'Brien played a hurricane 25-ball 40-run innings, of which he smashed three sixes off Mashrafee in an over. Niall also smashed three fours in his innings. It seemed Bangladesh were in the match till the start of 15th over after Mashrafee removed Gray Wilson in 14.2 overs, and Kevin O'Brien came to the middle to change the scenario. Needing 48 runs from 34 deliveries, Kevin O'Brien smacked two sixes and four fours in his 17-ball 39-run knock to propel Ireland home with 10 balls to spare. John Mooney was not out with 17 off 14 balls. Earlier, Bangladesh recovered from a lacklustre batting display early in the innings as most of the batsmen struggled against some quality Irish bowling to finish on 137-8.

England Innings

Pakistan Innngs

England captain Paul Collingwood admitted England had given everything he had asked of them after they moved through to the Super Eights of the World Twenty20 with victory over Pakistan at The Oval. Kevin Pietersen top scored with a rapid 58 as England reached 185 for five and then reduced their opponents to 137 for seven to claim a 48-run victory. It avenged England's shock defeat by the Netherlands which meant they came into this game knowing anything other than a victory would see them bundled out of the tournament. "When we lost the other night a lot of pride had been hit hard and we had 24 hours to hit back.

"I thought the way we batted was exceptional, there was a lot of freedom. "We had to do one thing - go out and win the match. "There was a lot of purpose with the batting. "Everybody put their hand up today and that is what we needed from the players." Pietersen admitted he had been desperate to prove his fitness and play in what was a crucial game. The Hampshire player had been ruled out of the Holland match with an Achilles injury but he returned to steer England to victory with 58 off just 38 balls, as they returned to winning ways after a defeat Pietersen insisted should never have happened. He said: "It was a huge match. "If we didn't win we were out and that is not nice.

"It was a huge evening - I was desperate to play, I've never had an injury that has kept me out which has been hard to deal with. "I reckon I'm about 70% fit. Hopefully that is the last of it now because I just love playing. "I am happy to play with a bunch of boys who played like they did this evening." On the Holland defeat Pietersen added: "That was a one off - we should never, ever have lost that game. It's not right to lose to the Netherlands."
